Freediving in Amed, Bali

Amed is a sleepy fishing village that sits under the impressive view of Mt Agung in North East Bali. Amed has become a hub for freedivers around the world. The accommodation and food are cheap and the diving conditions are world class! Just a short swim from shore we can get 55m depth inside the protected Jameluk Bay.

The town of Amed runs along the beach in a short strip with places to stay, places to eat, coconuts to drink…oh the coconuts! And several places to watch the sun go down after a day of diving. It’s is one of those places that freedivers get stuck and never want to leave or at least a place they keep coming back to! Amed is a cruisey 3 hour drive from Denpasar Airport in Bali. The drive should cost you around $50

For most travellers there is now NO QUARANTINE getting into Bali/Indonesia! We’ve been waiting for this for years!

We will be running the even through the famous Blue Earth Village. It’s a large space with many yoga halls, swimming pools, restaurants, accommodation and chill out spots. Basically it’s perfect for a bunch of freedivers looking to dive deep and get silly!

ACCOMMODATION

Each diver is responsible for organising their own accommodation for Deep Week in Bali. We will provide you with a recommended accommodation list but in short there is a huge range from cheap dormitories and cheap rooms, comfortable (but still cheap) rooms all the way up to luxury accommodation.

It’s best to stay as close to Blue Earth Village as possible but in saying that most divers hire scooters for the week so that being within walking distance isn’t a problem!

COVID CHAT

What a shame we are still talking about Covid but here we are! We have been waiting patiently for Indonesia to open up without quarantine and now it has! Indonesia is offering Visa On Arrival for passport holders from countries:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I have no experience in freediving. Is Deep Week a right fit for me?

Of course! If you are just getting started in your Freediving journey, we offer Wave 1 courses which are beginner courses. You will learn all the basics of this sport, physiology, safety, and equalization.

Most importantly, you will have a whole week to practice your skills and get more comfortable in the water. No rushing through a 2-day course. Get ready to immerse yourself in Freediving with us!

Do you offer AIDA/SSI/PADI certifications?

All of our courses and certifications are Molchanovs. Feel free to know more about it’s philosophy here https://molchanovs.com/

I’m coming with my partner but he/she/they is not interested in Freediving, is it okay?

Your +1 is welcome to join you in Deep Week and explore the beautiful town of Amed while you’re freediving. They can join our morning yoga, Meditation or afternoon Xfit on the house!

Is gear hire included?

Unfortunately it’s not included. You can either bring your own gear from home or rent it in Amed. There are a couple of places where you can rent from but we always recommend to bring your own gear.

What type of wetsuit should I bring to Deep Week?

Amed waters are very warm. We recommend you bring a wetsuit to protect yourself from sun and jelly fish.

A 1.5mm or a 2mm wetsuit is perfect but if you have a 3mm, feel free to bring it. You can wear the top half of your 3mm suit with leggings or board shorts if the whole wetsuit is too hot. Anything thicker than a 3mm will be too hot.

You can also bring a rash guard, scuba diving wetsuit, triathlon wetsuit or  surf wetsuit. Basically the water is warm! Just about any wetsuit will do.

What’s included in the price of Deep Week?

The price includes all training, workshops and certification costs. All the buoy set-ups, staff and facilites to run the event are covered by your entry ticket.

With Deep Week you’re accessing not only line training in one of the best spots for Freediving in the world but also workshops from the world’s best freedivers!

This event is one-of-a-kind!

The price does not include any accommodation, travel, visa fees, meals or gear hire.

What happens if I get sick and I’m not able to travel?

For any personal circumstances that stop you coming to the event we can transfer your payment (deposit or full payment) to a future event run in the year or the following year. We cannot issue refunds.

The schedule looks great but I don’t know if I’m ready to do all of that.

Nothing at Deep Week is compulsory and you are welcome to come to as much or as little as you like!

You want to do yoga but don’t feel like HIIT training? Not a problem.

You’ve never done meditation but you’re curious about it? Give it a try!

The activities are thought to keep everyone interested and motivated, but if you feel like resting and just enjoying your time off, by all means, do it! Rest is as important as activity and during Deep Week we want you to enjoy your time as much as possible!

Do I need to be fit to join Deep Week?

You don’t need to do anything to join Deep Week, just show up!

The only requirement is that you’re comfortable in the water and can swim unassisted for 200mts in a pool setting.

So basically, if you can swim comfortably (no need to be Michael Phelps) you’re all good.

I’m not familiar with Deep Week… What were previous experiences?

We are extremely happy to say that we have hosted many Deep Weeks in different locations all over the world and received very positive feedback and previous. But don’t take my word for it, check our student’s testimonies to have a greater understanding of what Deep Week is.
